06-10 November ”Workshop with Rúrí”

Michaela and I, photographing our final work of the week.

For the second workshop of the course, we had an inspirering visit by the islandic artist, Rúrí.

The workshop was concentrated about global warming, and more specifically, the sealevels rising.

In collaboration with Rúrí, we created beautiful maps, showing a not so beautifull future.

At the end of the week, we had to consider our own thoughts on global warming and how it effects us, animals, coastline etc. etc. etc. We had to start the process of a manifesto, putting our own ideas into a project.

I must admit, i'm still in the denial-fase. I do not wan't to admit that this will happen. I still believe that we can prevent it - or at least prevent it from getting too bad.

So for my 5 minutes with Rúrí, I had researched a lot about initaives to tackle the water, while "waiting for the world to change" - or at least the people who have the influence to change or help prevent global warming.

Here are some of my research and ideas that i showed Rúrí:

Rúrí told me, that the idea of preventing the global warming, of course, is the way to go. But, as she pointed out, it would need the attention of some very very powerfull people to slow the global warming down. We discussed back and forth, mostly because I, as a not-super-powerfull-young-woman, wanted to know what I could do.

Rúri advised me to keep researching and use my network to communicate green initatives, which inspired my to do my manifesto.

Picture above, showing the process of creating the final map. Here we see all the different sealevels we created, from 5 meter to 2000 m. We ended up, working with 65 meters rise in the sealevel.

short clip from the workshop, where I realized how much 65 meters actually is...
